Wheel Motor validation testing confirms 1,250 Nm Peak Torque

Recent results from NATA certified dynamometer validation testing has confirmed the Evans Electric wheel motor produces a peak power output of 150 Kw (201.15 hp) and peak torque of 1,250 Nm (921.83 lb-ft).

The direct drive Axial Flux AC Induction Wheel Motors not only provide all-wheel-drive vehicle propulsion but also enable non-contact electromagnetic braking, replacing hydraulic friction brake systems which are mostly redundant in current generation Hybrid vehicles.

Additionally, earlier this month Evans Electric were issued US Patent #8,393,443 covering a vehicle drive system based on their Axial Flux Wheel Motor technology. Granted patent claims include software based vehicle dynamics features such as ABS, stability control, traction control, brake steer, active brake bias, torque vectoring, intelligent cruise control, emergency brake assist and collision avoidance.

Following the wheel motor validation milestone having been achieved, a demonstration vehicle featuring All Wheel Drive with up to 600 Kw (804.61 hp) is nearing completion. In addition to the wheel motor development, Evans Electric have concurrently developed prototype power electronics in-house to suit the unique AWD powertrain.

Despite remaining largely in stealth mode the company has recently been approached by several well known names in the global automotive business and is currently preparing for a new funding round.
