Electric Car Concept runs on Inductive Road Energy

The o-lec is a two-seat electric vehicle concept by English designer Scott Gilbert. The name o-lec is short for online electric car, since the vehicle draws power from the road using inductive power transfer.

Rather than charging up through a power cord or running on fuel cells, the car would take energy directly from the surface it is driving on. The car can seat two people, one behind the other, and would be rented out in urban centers for short-range driving.

Gilbert estimates a vehicle system like this could exist by 2030 as an alternative to standard fuel or battery powered vehicles.
